The Candle That Launched a Company
Ever since I was a child I have loved the smell of candles. I would set several of them around my bedroom and light them each day. Fruity scents, floral scents, relaxing or energizing - I had them all. But there was one candle in particular that was my favorite. It was a small, pink candle that came in a small, pink tin. My mother used to buy it from a friend of hers. It had a slightly floral, slightly sweet smell. I couldn't get enough of it. I'd light it about an hour before I went to bed each night, and no matter what kind of a day I had, the smell of that candle would relax me and put me at ease. Sometimes I wouldn't even light it, I would just sit on the edge of my bed with the tin up to my nose, breathing in that heady aroma. To say I loved it would be an understatement.
Those tins lived on my nightstand for years. When I'd burn one of the candles to the end, I had another pink tin to take its place. Then one day, the unthinkable happened. The company my mom's friend worked for announced they were discontinuing that candle (Nooooooo!!!!!!). I remember being so upset. My mom bought the rest of the candles her friend had in stock, which was only a couple. I savored those remaining candles, burning them sparingly until, years later, the flame died out for the last time.
Through the years, it has been impossible for me to pass by a display of candles without smelling them all, secretly hoping one would capture the fragrance reminiscent of the aroma from that small, pink tin. After realizing I probably wasn't going to find what I was after, the thought struck me: maybe I could make it myself. And so the journey began of making candles. Premiere, the first candle in the Signature Collection, is the result of months of experimenting to create a scent that resembled the one I loved so much as a child.
What started out as a personal project quickly grew into a business. The thought occurred to me, "If I love candles so much, and scent has this strong of an effect on me, other people probably share the same feeling." Although the Premiere candle is not an exact duplication of the candle from my childhood, it still evokes the same feeling when I smell it. It is slightly floral, slightly sweet, and I just can't get enough.
